What is Career Stagnation?

Modern work life faces many challenges, one of which is undefined career stagnation, where there is no clear health-related work ability risk involved.

On the other hand, career stagnation is often closely linked to a perceived decline in health. Both employers and employees may find it difficult to determine who to turn to when the issue doesn’t directly fall under the scope of occupational health services or pension providers. Career stagnation refers to unsatisfying work or a situation where the employee feels stuck for one reason or another. Employees often see little way out of the situation. Too easy tasks can signal career stagnation, but its cause may also lie in a lack of skills, motivation, absence of a clear career path, challenges within the work community, or even leadership issues.

How Does Career Stagnation Manifest?

A career stagnation situation in an employee can manifest as symptoms such as fatigue, sick leave, signs of depression, headaches, neck pain, challenges with collaboration, concentration and motivation issues, as well as other cognitive and physical symptoms. Recognizing early signs is crucial from both the organization’s strategic and productivity standpoint, as well as for the individual’s long-term work ability.
